In this demo, you will learn the different methods to block printing while using Speedball’s time honored products.  The Speedy-Carve Block Printing Method uses an easy to carve, flexible pink Speedy-Carve block that makes it faster, safer and easier to carve but also allows for fine-line printing. Speedy-Cut Block Printing is a special material that makes these soft-cut blocks faster, safer and easier to cut than traditional linoleum. Linoleum Block Printing Method is a traditional technique of creating expression with drawing and textural surface design. There is the opportunity for multiple copies of art prints.  Polyprint Printing Technique offers you an economical, easy-to-use printmaking materials surface for use with pre-school and elementary grade children.  And Flexible Printing Plate Technique uses a 1/16” thick, flexible vinyl printmaking mat that is easy to cut and mount on a supporting base.  Come and learn about the different options!

Introduction into Encaustics
Sponsored By: Ampersand; R&F Encaustics

Time: 11:00am – 12:30pm
Instructor: Lynne Mayer

Register/Pay Save a Seat

What makes encaustic paint uniquely different from all other mediums is its use of heat. The paint, comprised of beeswax, damar resin and pigment, is applied molten and then fused (re-heated) to bond to existing layers. Encaustic wax can be manipulated to create dramatic three-dimensional effects, subtle atmospheric illusions, or realistic details. Illusions and images must be crafted one stroke and one layer at a time. Techniques used in Encaustics are: fusing, scraping, casting, pouring, inscribing, stenciling, dipping, burnishing, collage, inlay, image transfer, and embedding. Tools used for performing these techniques will be discussed and displayed. R&F Handmade Paints, Pigment Sticks, Encaustic Gesso, and Encaustic Bord by Ampersand will be featured.
This Encaustic demonstration will show you: The beginning layers of medium which prepare the board for the painting; How pigmented layers of wax are moved with a heat tool; Charging stencils with 200 degree hot colored wax; Embedding solid objects like feathers; Completed framed encaustic paintings.

The Watercolor Magic
Sponsored by: Daniel Smith; Escoda Brush; Strathmore – FULL

Time: 3:00pm – 4:30pm
Instructor: Margaret Park

Watercolor is often thought of as the difficult medium. It is, however, only difficult because we make it so. It is like making pie crust – its simplicity makes it difficult. We tend to overwork it rather than embracing the fact that less is more. With all other mediums we can paint layer upon layer, working and reworking areas, until we laboriously get it where we want. With watercolor, following the recipe and knowing when to stop make the magic happen.
Within this 1-½ hours, Margaret will demonstrate brush strokes, watercolor techniques, and basic color theory while completing a painting using a large sheet of watercolor paper and her favorite pigments and brushes.
