June 26-30: Julie Bauer: Experimental Painting – Mixed Media

Think you cannot paint? I will prove you can!

You will learn to paint with and without a brush, and using natural materials.

The first day we will start with the group painting, all together. You will see how easy it is and how much fun!
Then you will paint your own, individual paintings. Each day will start with a new theme, and you will learn to use a new tool. Those might be sticks, leaves, flowers, sand, fabrics, wool, paper or even shapes cut out of a potato.
In parallel, you will see how to make a flow painting and observe how paint behaves on a large canvas, changing its appearance while it flows and dries.

Don’t miss this unique experience!

The course is suited for beginners as well as for advanced artists.

In this summer camp, everyday will be an art party! We will paint, design, draw, tie dye, decoupage, and so much more! Your children will not only learn the creative process and use different media but they will create their own work including canvases, t-shirts and other unique crafts just like you admire on Pinterest. Their work will certainly make them, you and your family proud.

July 17-21: Kathleen Pacenti: Mixed Media Art

Come join Mixed Media Crafts where we will use oil pastels, water colors, and colored tiled papers to make a Van Gogh replica. Or cast our hands in plaster to then paint wild and whimsical. We will create marbelized paper and 3D hanging stars using our own stamped papers or scrapbooking paper. And a portrait of your favorite animal using mixed media will be great fun. The kids will also learn about color theory and water color techniques and effects

July 31-Aug 4: Mia Hansford: The Basics of Drawing

How do I see? How do I appear in the world? We will pose these questions to ourselves and each other in this provocative, super fun week of classically inspired drawing instruction. Young artists will be challenged to capture the way they appear to one another. In addition, we will each use our own faces and figures to examine the elusive art of the self-portrait.

We will share and explore the classically delineated proportions of the body and in community, use those for closer questioning of what we see and feel as our drawings accrue weight and expression. Each student will be guided through some of the moves and techniques of self-portraiture, beginning with hands and moving into the entire body.

The young artist will experience and practice the most essential techniques of drawing: chiascuro, gesture, contour, volume and form delineation through proportion, tone, and textural mark making. We will examine placement, composition and a variety of ways to use the tools in the drawing toolkit. Beautiful examples of art history from the Renaissance to now will serve as guideposts and touchstones. The practice of self-reflection and critical feedback will also play a daily part of our class.
